Alex Goodall – CEO:
I’m proud and excited to announce that Clean Energy Capital is now Xela Energy.
This is more than a rebrand — it’s a signal. We’ve moved from an ambitious start-up to a fully-fledged Enterprise Independent Power Provider (EIPP), building, owning and operating private wire renewable energy infrastructure for the UK’s largest energy users.
We’ve always believed that if our energy is unsustainable, so is our existence. And now, we’re delivering on that belief — with scale, clarity, and purpose.
Xela Energy is short, sharp, and built for what’s next. A name that reflects our momentum and mindset: solutions-led, technology-agnostic, and relentlessly focused on making renewable power undeniable.
There’s a tremendous amount to look forward to — but I want to take a moment to reflect on how we got here.
This is a journey that has been both deeply personal and a wholly collaborative effort on behalf of our talented, dedicated, and fast-growing team. It’s a privilege to be able to tell our story on their behalf, and to introduce you to our new brand — inspired by an enduring philosophy and our commitment to changing how large energy-using corporations procure power.
When we launched Clean Energy Capital, the name served its purpose. At the time, we needed something that conveyed credibility and ambition. It worked.
We raised our first £3 million seed round on vision alone — no land, no customers, no assets. Through sheer grit and determination, and a team with the track record to make it happen, we ended up oversubscribed by 50% compared to our original goal.
We used that early momentum to secure land positions and start building out institutional-grade processes — CRM systems, HR systems, and more. These are things many startups overlook, which later cause growing pains or deter serious investors. Institutional capital looks for scalability — the ‘cookie-cutter’. We had to prove we weren’t just another good idea. We were a business built for serious growth.
We implemented scalable systems and infrastructure from day one — internal processes designed for a company ten times our size. They were built to suit where we were heading, not where we were. Investors don’t just back ambition; they back readiness. We built for scale before we had scale.
Eighteen months after our seed round, our early investors doubled down with another £2.5 million. That gave us the runway to pursue our goal of securing significant institutional capital.
We approached more than 40 funds with the support of Cameron Barney (now CBHH), who acted as our broker — in one of the toughest capital markets in recent history. Ultimately, we were successful, and we chose True Green Capital from the US as our partner.
In my experience building businesses, I’ve always focused on execution over vision. At the end of the day, dreams don’t build infrastructure. Discipline, commitment, and results do.
We achieved our goal, in one of the UK’s largest renewable energy equity raises last year. It was the most challenging period of my career — in fact, of my life — and I know the team felt the same. But we made it.
Today, we’re not just raising money and securing land — we’re planning and delivering large-scale renewable projects.
Our first solar site entered planning earlier this year, adjacent to a data centre in Hursley. It’s expected to generate nearly 5 million kWh of clean energy annually. That’s the equivalent of avoiding 46,000 tonnes of CO₂ — or planting 60,000 trees over the project’s lifetime. It will also be the UK’s first scaled off-site private-wire solar farm dedicated to powering a data centre.
We’ve made incredible progress executing our vision — funding, building the team, securing land and capital, and delivering real infrastructure. We’ve grown from an idea into a scaled enterprise that builds, owns and operates.
That’s why we needed a name that reflects who we are now.
Xela Energy stands for clarity, innovation, and the next phase of our mission. It’s modern, confident, and built to match the scale of our ambition. We’re not tied to one technology. We’re not just developers. We deliver tangible solutions to the UK’s largest energy users — with a vision for the future of green energy in the UK and beyond.
Data centres. Industrial manufacturers. Pharma. Tech giants. These organisations don’t want promises. They want power. Clean, cost-effective, and reliable — without upfront capital, and without compromise.
Xela Energy is here to meet that need.
This is my third venture, and the one with the clearest mission:
No subsidies. No excuses. Just smart, scalable, clean power.
Thank you for being part of our journey.
